Agriculture
Agriculture provides wildlife habitats, a well-loved landscape and a place for recreation – but it also has some less desirable impacts on the environment.
We regulate farming through regimes such as Nitrate Vulnerable Zone (NVZ) compliance, water abstraction licences, discharge consents and farm waste regulations. Further information including ppc guidance is available according to your farming sector:
- Arable
- Catchment Sensitive Farming
- Dairy and beef
- Energy crops

Nitrate Vulnerable Zones
Defra have just responded to the consultation on a new NVZ Action Programme and designation of Nitrate Vulnerable Zones in England. Their response indicates how they intend to proceed on issues raised in the consultation and provides a statement of what the new Action Programme measures will be. Changes will come into force 1 October 2008 and we will regulate them.
